Film on Facebook

ibebabyg:

Someone told me my film photos from the the weekend I took on my Nikon FE looked like they were taken on Instagram. This was the most soul crushing thing I have been told about my photos.

I went through all your photos just to find that one

and then I liked it

“And sadly, the reality is that a black trans woman is not society’s ideal subject. Our stories are not told, we are not invited to contribute to the national conversation, we are told to stay in the dark, live our lives at night, never to be heard from unless we’re found lyng dead on a street corner. And even then justice, like in Paige’s case, isn’t often served.

I’ve come to realize that a black trans woman, even with CeCe’s exuberant essence and compelling story, will never be perceieved as worthy enough for society to truly rally behind. But despite this injustice, I will never depart from my core belief that CeCe and Paige and thousands of other girls like us matter.

We are not disposable. No human life is. And until we all come around to this belief we’ll never achieve equality. When I say equality, it’s not only a phrase we attach to the right to get married, I attach it to the the fabric of our lives: the right to work, the right to have a home, the right to use the restroom without second guessing, the right to walk in your neighborhood and feel safe.”
“I’m (expletive deleted) starving.”

Celebrity chef Mario Batali • Discussing the diet he’s currently on — he’s eating like he’s on food stamps (an average of $1.48 per meal, or $31 per week) in protest of potential cuts to the federal food stamps program. His family was nice enough to join him in what he calls a conversation starter about being hungry in the U.S. Unlike most people on food stamps, he knows ways to make the best of a bad situation, smartly sticking to foods like lentils, apples, rice, beans, peanut butter and jelly. But the problem is, eating good on a diet like this is tough, so many do not. Think his family’s experiment will be effective? (via shortformblog)

Maybe this will put it into perspective for people. Y’all out there who think food stamps magically allows people to eat like kings are ignorant, and plain old stupid. A google search will yield you the info that the average food stamp allowance for a family of 4 is 280$~ a month. Sometimes less, as that is an average. Food deserts exist, and people aren’t always knowledgeable of what “good” food is, or how to prepare it. I am interested to see how this pans out to the public.

Think about the fact that Batali definitely doesn’t live in a food desert, has decades of food knowledge to fall back on, and still is saying things like “you can live on it, but you can’t thrive.” And to save money from that food budget, he’s having his kids buy school lunch, since the average family on TANF would also qualify for free school lunches, which is another program that’s on the chopping block.

Taylor-Ruth makes comics about her life, the world, and the people around her. “I’ve always had a hard time with people, with school, feelings of rejection, loneliness, not fitting in… you know, the struggles all teenagers go through,” she explains. One day, she posted a comic from her personal diary, and the Tumblr community noticed. “I expected everyone to ignore the comic because it was about my life or whatever, but to my surprise it rapidly got notes. Posting the comics about my life was empowering,” she said. (Among other things, Taylor-Ruth loves thunderstorms, horror movies, spooky things, pizza, and hanging out at cemeteries.)

“Dudes. Imagine life here in the US — or indeed, pretty much anywhere in the Western world — is a massive role playing game, like World of Warcraft except appallingly mundane, where most quests involve the acquisition of money, cell phones and donuts, although not always at the same time. Let’s call it The Real World. You have installed The Real World on your computer and are about to start playing, but first you go to the settings tab to bind your keys, fiddle with your defaults, and choose the difficulty setting for the game. Got it?
Okay: In the role playing game known as The Real World, “Straight White Male” is the lowest difficulty setting there is.
This means that the default behaviors for almost all the non-player characters in the game are easier on you than they would be otherwise. The default barriers for completions of quests are lower. Your leveling-up thresholds come more quickly. You automatically gain entry to some parts of the map that others have to work for. The game is easier to play, automatically, and when you need help, by default it’s easier to get.
Now, once you’ve selected the “Straight White Male” difficulty setting, you still have to create a character, and how many points you get to start — and how they are apportioned — will make a difference. Initially the computer will tell you how many points you get and how they are divided up. If you start with 25 points, and your dump stat is wealth, well, then you may be kind of screwed. If you start with 250 points and your dump stat is charisma, well, then you’re probably fine. Be aware the computer makes it difficult to start with more than 30 points; people on higher difficulty settings generally start with even fewer than that.
As the game progresses, your goal is to gain points, apportion them wisely, and level up. If you start with fewer points and fewer of them in critical stat categories, or choose poorly regarding the skills you decide to level up on, then the game will still be difficult for you. But because you’re playing on the “Straight White Male” setting, gaining points and leveling up will still by default be easier, all other things being equal, than for another player using a higher difficulty setting.
Likewise, it’s certainly possible someone playing at a higher difficulty setting is progressing more quickly than you are, because they had more points initially given to them by the computer and/or their highest stats are wealth, intelligence and constitution and/or simply because they play the game better than you do. It doesn’t change the fact you are still playing on the lowest difficulty setting.
You can lose playing on the lowest difficulty setting. The lowest difficulty setting is still the easiest setting to win on. The player who plays on the “Gay Minority Female” setting? Hardcore.”
John Scalzi tells it like it is. (Go and read the whole essay, then read the comments.)

lol if your answer to being called out for doing nothing but showing off skinny white women while you are a skinny white woman and talmabout “body acceptance” is “haters going to hate”, you are doing your entire life wrong.
